The leadership of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has condemned the stabbing to death of one of their supporters at Ogoo farm in Western of Freetown over the weekend. The victim’s name is unknown.
The presidential candidate for the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Julius Maada Bio and his national executive have expressed disappointment and frustration over the stabbing of one of their Party supporters at Ogoo farm.
While addressing supporters, Bio said the supporter was one of the many loyalists who believe in the Party. The deceased was cleaning one of his posters when unknown youths grabbed and stabbed him to death.
Bio said the action by the perpetrators that led to the death of the supporter must be investigated speedily and suspects charged to court. He said, “As a Party we want to condemned in the strongest terms all forms of violence before, during and after the March elections and we want to remind the police of their responsibilities to speedily investigate the death of our member at Ogoo farm,” he stressed.
The Head of Media for the Police, Assistant Superintendent, Ibrahim Samura, on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) confirmed the death of the young man at Ogoo farm. The victim has been linked to the SLPP and his death involves political party cliques. The police spokesman said four suspects have been arrested and they are still investigating the incident.
The SLPP Public Relations Officer, Lawrence Leeman Lahai, said they’ve received complaints from their supporters that attended the welcome rally of Maada Bio yesterday. Apparently, some people were attacked and stabbed along Syke Street by some clique boys. He said political intimidation by the APC, if not addressed, they will go into self-defense mode. They are calling on the police to hold people accountable for their actions.
Last week, a journalist was stabbed while covering a SLPP rally and the Bio announcement of his intention to vie for flag-bearer. Leeman said they condemned the act and disassociated themselves from the perpetrators.
