The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has opened a Membership Drive to admit new members into the Association. The drive will run from 16 November to 16 December 2017. SLAJ President, Kelvin Lewis, said, “We want to welcome qualified and professional journalists under the SLAJ umbrella.”
Over 2015-2016, the SLAJ Membership Committee verified and completed a digital database of all SLAJ members. During that exercise, many seasoned and new journalists, who were not yet members of SLAJ, expressed an eagerness to become members. In response, SLAJ re-constituted the Membership Committee to implement and oversee this Membership Drive. SLAJ is an organization of highly acclaimed, professional and trusted journalists. To be qualified to apply, an applicant must have a profession-related Degree or Certificate and worked for a minimum of six months. Applications are also welcomed from journalists who have at least five WASSCE passes, including English Language and worked in the profession for a minimum of three years. For those without academic certification, a minimum of four years of experience is required.
Journalists who wish to apply should visit the SLAJ website: www.slaj.sl to download the free SLAJ Membership Application Form. The form is free to download but a non-refundable application processing fee of Le100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Leones) will apply. According to SLAJ Secretary General, Ahmed Nasralla, potential members should download the form, fill it out and pay the application fee to the SLAJ Membership Dues Account: A/C No. 3125345113 at any branch of GTBank. Instructions on the application form indicate, “Payments/deposits must be made in your name; i.e. the name you write on the Application Form.”
Applicants and potential SLAJ members can submit their applications by visiting the SLAJ Headquarters on Campbell Street in Freetown or email their scanned documents, along with the bank deposit slip, to: [email protected] Applications will be vetted and an interview will be scheduled with the Membership Credentials Committee for final vetting.
