Sierra Akker Foods Abbattoir at Kossoh Town is now ready for operation after they have done trial runs that have proved extremely successful.
In an interview with the Manager of the Abbatoir last Friday, Nigerian Adelani Ajani said they started doing trial runs on the 22nd of January and they have processed cattle, goats and chickens, which he said proved that the Abbattoir is ready for business.
Adelani said in the next two weeks it will be fully operational and it will be ready, but they will have to do the opening ceremony as it is their customs; after which they will go public. “During the trial runs we did cattle rearers came with their cattle to process for them which we did within the shortest possible time. Then the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Pakai brought in layers from Sumbuya that were sent for trials and we processed these quickly.”
Adelani said he has worked for UAC Foods and Obasanjo Farms where he was in charge of their Abbattoir, but he decided to come and have a new challenge in Sierra Leone and he hopes he will enjoy his stay and help make Sierra Akker Foods become a household name in the Mano River Union states.
Talking about the quality of the products, he said the process is done under strict hygiene condition and even the workers, are well dressed to meet international standard.
The Accountant of Sierra Foods, Abdul Koroma said because the administrative block has been completed, the head quarter of the company has moved from Sumbuya right down to Kossoh Town where he started work one week ago.
He said they have also organized a depo for the eggs from Sumbuya so that people will now get the fresh eggs closer to their business areas.
“We have come a long way to reach where we are now, finally the Abbattoir is ready for us, you can see that we are ready after the test runs, we are selling meat, chicken and their parts to the public.”
Mr. Koroma said when the operation starts in earnest they will be slaughtering Broilers instead of Layers that are spent.
He also said that they have almost completed the environmental procedure that they hope to unveil on the 10th February when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be present to do the assessment on the ground.
“The management acquired the services of a consultant from Njala Environmental Technical from the School of Environmental Sciences. This disclosure will be done before EPA will give us the certificate of operation.
The CEO Pakai Kamara said they have come this far and now he is happy that the jigsaw puzzle is taking shape as the Kossoh Town is now ready for operation.
He said this is the first Abbattoir in the Mano River Union and they intend to make use of the markets in all four countries. “That is why we are putting all modalities in place to be proactive and meet the demands of people. The Abbattoir can process 50 cattle a day and 2,000 chickens per hour and we have put all modalities in place to meet our target by supplying the Mano River Union countries.
The CEO said he is not sure when the opening ceremony will take place but they are ready now and he hopes the government that has supported him through the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to work with him so that they can produce quality and hygienic foods for the people of Sierra Leone.
