The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, Cornelius Deveaux has told Awoko in Bo that the Sierra Leone Government is aware about the potential threat of Zika virus as a Global Health Concern.
He said that the Government is prepared to contain the spread of Zika virus as the health facilities used to fight against Ebola are well in place, noting that they have not been dismantled as suspected cases can be responded to.
Mr. Deveaux said that the government is committed to promote awareness raising to sleep under protected Mosquito bed net because Zika can be contacted through mosquitoes, adding that even though scientifically, it has not yet been proven whether it exist here but the government is aware about the potential threat of Zika as a Global Health Concern and that the Government is closely monitoring the situation in terms of taking a double look at cases of malaria reported in the health facilities in the country.
The Deputy Information Minister said that the Government is closely working in collaboration with the World Health Organization to identify any suspected case of Zika virus in the country.
Earlier, residents of Bo have been asking about what the government is doing to contain the Zika virus as it is being discussed in the international Media like the BBC, Voice of America, CNN and Aljazeera.
This concern is coming at a time when the bad stories of the deadly Ebola Virus are still on the minds of Sierra Leoneans as there was a slow response when it initially broke out in the eastern region.
