On the 4th of March 2017 the 7 year-old victim was returning home from school along Bowan street in Wellington, when the accused Manfred Cole alias “Lyn” who lived in the area called her and took her into his room where he proceeded to penetrate her. The aunt of the victim later discovered the victim’s uncomfortable movement, and made a report at the Congo Water Police Post. Cole was arrested on April 2017. He was charged with sexual penetration contrary to section 19 to the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.
On 19th July 2018 at the Siaka Stevens Street High Court the accused pleaded guilty and the Defence Counsel O.C Spencer-Coker made a plea for mitigation on his behalf. Justice Monfred Sesay delivered his verdict and sentenced the accused to 7 years in Prison.
