A ten-year old girl who was allegedly abused by 27-year old, Samu Moinina, in Bonthe District has reportedly died at the UBC Mattru Hospital. Eyewitnesses, including a family member, said the girl confessed, while she was admitted to the hospital, that Moinina sexually molested her in his room. The incident was reported to the police after her death.
Medical examinations conducted earlier confirmed she suffered anemia due to profuse bleeding, which eventually led to her death. Detailed reports by the hospital administration has not been released to investigators.
The crime officer of the Bonthe Police Division, Inspector Lahai Mansaray, said Moinina is currently being held for murder and not for sexual penetration.
Statistics from the Family Support Unit in Mattru Jong, indicate the District recorded 61 sexual penetration cases from January 2017 – June 2018. Out of the 61 cases, only 24 were charged to court. “The rest got stocked for lack of evidence to prosecute,” Police said. AB/2/7/18
