In July 2016, an 18-year old secondary school pupil stole Le5 million worth of goods. Following police investigations, Patrick Sahr James was charged to court to answer to the offence of House Breaking and Larceny contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
He was also incarcerated at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown for 19-months while attending Court.
After some preliminary investigations, he was committed for trial at the High Court in Freetown, there, before the presiding Justice, Bintu Alhadi, he pleaded guilty to the offence as charged. He told the Court that he was influenced by bad friends but now felt remorseful and was ready to go back to school. He also told the Court that he was a first time offender.
The Correctional Service officers also informed the Court that James had no bad record and have been well behaved while at the Correctional Centre.
The presiding Judge on Tuesday 17 April 2018, sentenced the young offender to “time served”, and ordered his release from custody. She admonished him to do better with his life.
