Sierra Leone News: Prosecution closes case against alleged police clearance forgers
The State Prosecutor has closed its case, on Monday 11 March 2019, in the alleged police document forgery case involving three men. According to the Police, the accused, George Martin, Sampha Koroma and Saidu Ibrahim Barrie, allegedly forged a Sierra Leone Police Report bearing the name George Martin (1st accused) purported to have been signed by Detective Superintendent Richard R.G. Roberts the Deputy Head of Crime Management at the CID. In addition, the accused allegedly forged a Sierra Leone Police Clearance Certificate bearing the name Abu Turay purported to have been prepared and signed by Chief Superintendent M.B. Kamara. It is alleged that the accused between 1st January 2018 and 13th December 2018, with intent to defraud the United States of America Embassy, forged the said documents. Since the testimony of the last witness in February 2019, there have been four consecutive adjournments with no progress. The prosecutor ASP Ibrahim Mansaray informed the Court on Monday 4 March 2019 that they were trying to get the former Deputy Head at the CID, whose signature was forged, to come and testify. At the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court yesterday, the prosecutor said they will no longer proceed with the matter and requested that their case be closed. The only witness to testify in the matter was the police investigator. The defense counsel said they will present the Court with a written address of no case submission. Magistrate Hannah Bonnie adjourned the matter to 25 March 2019. The accused are on Le100 million bail each. The Magistrate ordered their bail continue.
