Muslims across Sierra Leone have joined other Muslims across the world to end the holy month of Ramadan (fast month) after 29 days. Eid Ul-Fitr is the celebration of the end of Ramadan and the Eid prayer was witnessed by President Maada Bio and Vice President Jalloh at the National Stadium on Friday 15 June 2018.
The Eid Ul-Fitr (Pray Day) is the day that signifies the end of the fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, hence the prayer or Salat is the second pillar (1 of the 5 pillars) of Islam because it is a ritual prayer performed five times daily.
The officiating Imam for the Eid Ul-Fitr prayer at the National Stadium, Sheik Abubakarr Conteh, of the Hamdallah Mosque in Freetown, told worshipers that it was on that day Allah will reward all Muslims who observed the holy month of Ramadan stressing that every individual will be awarded according to their work.
Sheik Conteh, quoting from Holy Quran said the angels of Allah will be calling all creation by Allah on this day saying, “You followers of Muhammed (SAW), come out to receive your certificate, reward and pay for what you have done during the month of Ramadan.”
The officiating Imam reminded the crowd that Allah asked His angels what is the reward of someone that performed his assignment accordingly, he said the angels will reply that, “You our master, do reward them accordingly.” He said in turn, “Tell them that I have accepted their work and my reward for them is acceptance of their holiness, plead for mercy and obedience,” he outlined.
Sheik Conteh said Islam emphasis the important and need for unity, cooperation and oneness. He reminded that in Surah number 3 verse 103, Allah called for unity among all humans to reflect and mediate on how people where behaving towards each other.
President Maada Bio said, “I am here to pray with you today because I am aware of the fact that Ramadan has come to an end and I want to share the blessing with you. We are all aware that today marks end of the holiest month in Islam and I will not sit at home without sharing this month with all our Muslim brothers and sisters.”
The President said both Muslims and Christians don’t have any differences between themselves therefore it is something worth celebrating. He said nowhere in the world where you can see Muslims and Christians praying together.
