As the Sino-Sierra Leone friendship is improving at a faster rate, Dr. Flora a graduate of Ghure University with an obstetrician Degree who is currently working with the Chinese Sierra Leone friendship Hospital at Jui for the past five months.
In an interview, she said that the Sierra Leone Population is small compare to china’s population; she said increase in population will lead to more human development in turn leads to national development. Dr. Flora also said that “pregnant women must be protected and care for all throughout their pregnancy so that Sierra Leone will have an increase in population”.
“Maybe the reason why the population is not experiencing rapid growth is due to the fact that there are many challenges in the health sector and the economy. Feeding the children will be difficult for many parents and the government because there has to be the facilities to accommodate these kids always.”
She said China went through it and they became very successful with their population as it is benefiting them now.
According to Dr. Flora, Sierra Leone patients are more respectful compare to china, even though the medical condition is not good as china, she is very pleased to help more pregnant women have safe delivery in Sierra Leone.
She has been providing some personal help like food and cost-recovery drugs for pregnant women in order to support the Sierra Leone China friendship hospital and reduce maternal mortality rate in the country.
“ Pregnant women need good health care for them to have safe delivery and avoid complications during pregnancy. Women should always be safe and healthy during pregnancy and mother or the child should not die, she must be able to deliver safely and happy.”
She said the children are the best investment so they should be cared for said Dr. Flora, if the pregnant woman medical condition is not good she needs to come to the hospital for help before it gets bad for her.
“Sometime pregnant women are unable to afford to pay for the prescription fees but with the help of Dr Flora most pregnant women have attested to the fact that the prescription fees have been reduced for them so they can have safer treatment and protect their babies.”
Birth control she said is very important in China, most Chinese women only have two children but this is different in Sierra Leone observed by Dr. Flora, but this is very good for Sierra Leone because the population is too small so the country needs an increase in the population so that more development will take place.
Dr Flora urged all pregnant women to make sure they see a doctor four to five times before they deliver and they should remember that money is not everything. She said they must endeavour to go to the clinics and hospital so that they can have safe delivery.
“I am appealing to all pregnant women to try and visit a doctor and they should make sure that all the advice given to them they obey and do them. Women should not die given birth and the babies have all right to be alive when they are delivered. This will happen when pregnant women go and see a doctor.”
