The National Electoral Commission (NEC) started the voter list exhibition on Tuesday 22 August 2017. The exercise will end on Sunday 27 August 2017. However, exhibition officers at three exhibition centres in Freetown, on Wednesday 23 August, said that the turnout of people to check the voter exhibition list is poor.
According to Jamiru Sesay, exhibition officer at the Government Model Secondary School, exhibition centre, said, “The turnout was poor yesterday. We have only 35 people who came for confirmation or correction”.
Alimamy Koroma, the exhibition officer at Regent Squire Municipal School exhibition centre, said, only 29 people came to the centre yesterday. Out of this number, 26 did confirmation while three did corrections.
The exhibition officers at Christ Church on Pademba Road however said they had about 50 people on the first day. They stated that yesterday was encouraging as more people went to confirm their details at the centre.
According to all the officers, the process was faster than the registration process. There were only few minor corrections such as adding a missing letter from ones name or changing a letter that was added to one’s name. Another minor correction made is the change of age.
People who had corrections were asked to fill a form and issued a receipt, which they will take to the NEC centre for final correction.
Alan Williams’ name was not spelled correctly as the last letter of his name was missing on the provisional register. He was given a slip, which he will take to the enquiry officers between the 29 and the 31 August. Williams urged that people who have problems should come to verify their details as the process was fast.
Koroma noted that after this date no correction will be made. He added that the names of people who got married after the registration will not be changed. ES/23/8/1
