Karim Makayo Moigua allegedly assaulted former girlfriend, Mary Bangura, a Police Officer. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm contrary to Section 47 of the Offences against Persons Act 1861 and Public Insult and Provocation contrary to Section 2 of the Public Order Act, 1961. The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges. The complainant testified at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate No.2 where she identified the accused as her ex-boyfriend. She narrated, on the day of the incident she was at home at around 9:00 p.m., when her boyfriend came home to spend time with her. According to her testimony, she was about to escort her boyfriend when Moigua attacked them and an argument ensued. He slapped her. The victim said her parents heard her scream and they rushed to the scene. Bangura was taken to Central Police Station, and made a statement about the incident. He was issued out a medical report form for examination and treated at Connaught Hospital. Bangura said she took the endorsed medical back to the police station. The lead defence counsel, W.Y. Kamara requested a deferment of cross-examination while F. Moigula pleaded with Magistrate Hannah Bonnie for the accused to be granted bail. The accused was granted bail of Le20 million. The matter has been adjourned to 28 January 2019.
