John Manoh Sesay, a police officer attached to the Jui police post was arraigned yesterday before Justice Samba for alleged shooting with intent causing the murder of David Kargbo on 28th September 2015.
The first prosecutiion witness in the alleged matter, police constable Abu Kanu explained to the court that while he was on duty, the officer commanding the Jui Police Post, Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP) Senesie arrested and reported the accused for shooting with intent causing murder on behalf of David Kargbo, the deceased.
Reading the accused statements, he stated to the investigating officer that he believed that the deceased was an armed robber, stating that the deceased was holding a sharp object and was trying to get at him. He further mentioned that in his attempt to exercise his right to self-defence with a pistol as he struggled to retrieve the sharp object from the deceased, the deceased shot with the pistol and obtained a wound on his back which eventually led to the deceased death.
In his conclusion, first prosecuting witness (PW1) said after preliminary investigation and interview of the accused by Police Constable Turay Y and him, the matter was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The matter was adjourned to 10th February 2016.
