The African Leadership Magazine noted the Petroleum Directorate Sierra Leone (PDSL) has won this year’s African Leadership Oil & Gas Government Institution of the Year Award, which recognizes the institution’s unparalleled commitment in the development of the oil and gas sector in Sierra Leone.
The awards ceremony will be held in August in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the forthcoming African Leadership Oil and Gas Development Summit under the theme “Increasing Efficiency and Stimulating New Investments in E&P Assets”.
During the event, the Director General of PDSL, Raymond Saidu Kargbo, will receive the award and also formally inducted into the African Leadership Hall of Fame – a global network of African Leaders, institutions, mentors, philanthropists, businesses, major think-tanks on World-African Relations, and stakeholders, contributing increasingly, and uniquely distinguishing themselves in various aspects of human endeavours and the African life.
The summit is conceived to bring together industry players from across the continent which include international oil companies, national oil companies, oil & gas service companies, independent oil companies, oil & gas financiers, regulators and industry commentators, amongst other stakeholders to discuss trends; innovations and strategies towards maintaining a lead in the volatile oil and gas sector.
It would be recalled that over the years, wells drilled offshore have proven the Sierra Leone basin to have a working petroleum system, with abundant prospects. Recognition of this prospective value led to the establishment of a data room for the analysis and viewing of data. Over and beyond that, the petroleum directorate has developed a national data archive, construction of a master PDSL Technical Workstation Project, step change in I.T. and power infrastructure to PDSL, 2D & 3D Seismic Data Interpretation, post-well analysis on the discoveries, GIS Capacity Building and Promotional Material Presentation and the setting up of data room for potential investors to view the data.
PDSL-DG Raymond Kargbo has also been invited to be a keynote speaker at the 2018 Africa Oil Week, which will take place on 5th – 9th November 2018.
