The Director of Freetong Players International (FPI) Charlie Haffner has said that to mark the fifth anniversary of the death of his wife, this year FPI would kick start the building project of a performing art school.Celebrating the Acapella groups 32nd Anniversary at the British Council on Saturday Charlie explained that the initially the plan was to build a performing art college, however the plot of land which they initially acquired fall within the right of way on a newly constructed road.However, he noted that the group has acquired a building where they intend to start until the build project of the Art College is completed.Chair of the celebration, Principal of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) Monica Bobson Kamara said FPI popularized street theater. When theater troupes we booted out of theater halls and the entire hall were closed FPI took it to the streets informing all and sundry about local and global events. She also highlighted the role a performing art theater would play in strengthening the art industry in the country. The Director of British Council Simon Ingram-Hill also registered their support to the performing arts in Sierra Leone.
