After being appointed by President Koroma and unanimously approved by Members of Parliament (MPs) as Executive Director of the National Youth Service, Mohamed Pateh Bah said “I have taken a conscious decision to step back from politics.”
There was distinct murmuring from the Parliamentary Gallery when Mr. Pateh Bah, who was a flag-bearer aspirant for the 2012 Presidential elections, entered the well to be approved by the House.
Speaking to him after his approval, the newly approved Executive Director of the National Youth Service said “I appreciate my appointment and I appreciate the sentiment by the Parliamentarians and I hope I will be able to succeed. It’s a mentorship institution and we have so many interventions which we need time to work on”.
Questioned about his appointment and his political ambition, Pateh Bah said “the appointment clearly shows the level of inclusion in terms of appointment by the President. On politics, I have taken a conscious decision to step back from politics and serve my country as a states man”.
Questioned on why he has decided to step back from politics, Mr. Pateh Bah said “I cannot divulge to you now”.
Debating on Wednesday before the three presidential nominees were approved including Mrs. Amy Elizabeth Green, Member Corporate Affairs Commission, and Mr. Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, Deputy Executive Director National Youth Service, the MPs made decent comments about the nominees.
Most of the MPs hailed Mr. Pateh Bah by calling him “a man who is always ready to take challenges in life”.
Hon. Mustapha Brima said “ Pateh is adjustable, soft spoken and humble”, adding that he had used such character to change the mind set about student union during his reign as student union president at Fourah Bah College stating that he will use his selfless effort to work in the youth service.
Following their (Presidential nominees) scrutiny at the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment and Public Service, the Twelfth Report of the fourth session of the Committee after being presented in Parliament by the Chairman, Hon Ibrahim Bundu, was adopted by the house and the recommendations contained therein were approved.
