Sierra Leone News: Parliamentarians hail Bernadette Cole

Madam Bernadette ColeAs Members of Parliament approved four presidential nominees, the Chairman of the Committee on Appointment, Hon. Ibrahim Bundu said with Madam Bernadette Cole who has been approved as Member of the Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission , “I see hope in education”.
Hon. Leonard S. Fofanah while thanking President Koroma for appointing Madam Cole said he made no mistake to include such personality in that commission stating that Madam Cole has travelled long distance in her professional development both as an educationist and a media practitioner.
He said Madam Cole is recognized by her eloquent, qualification and leadership role played in her teaching career.
Hon. Fofanah said the nominee is experienced and her discussion before the Committee on Appointment on the failures and successes of our educational system was eloquent and forthright stating, that shows “she is indeed an authority in our educational system in this country”.
“I therefore congratulate President Koroma for identifying Madam Cole and placing her in that position. I have no doubt that she will do well”.
Hon. Ansu Kaikai in applauding Madam Cole on her appointment said “if all of us will be dedicated like Madam Cole in terms of output, we will have a better Sierra Leone”.
Hon. Ibrahim Kargbo while debating on why Madam Cole must be approved said “she is a woman of many parts”, stating that she had served in the Mass Communication Department, Fourah Bah College not only as lecturer but also as Dean of the Faculty of Art, she had served in the Government Information Service, adding that she had also served as the Chair of the Independent Media Commission among others.
Hon. Kargbo said that he is quiet sure that with Madam Cole being an educationist and as a media practitioner she will make sure that the commission succeeds.
Speaking to Madam Cole after she had been approved, she said “I feel good and recognized and I feel that I have been appointed by the president by no mistake but because of the fact that I have had a very successful public service. I will do well in this new appointment. I am determined to contribute fully to the success of the establishment”.
“I know that a lot of studies have been undertaken by various organizations both national and international on the teaching service. We will dig out all of the report to know what the problems are and I believe with the status of people that are in the commission we will do well”.
The other approved persons who were also applauded by Parliamentarians are Col.(Rtd). Alie Brima Yamba Kamara, Member Environmental Protection Agency of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Fatmata Sorie, Member Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission, and Mr. Alfred Jumah Osman Fornah, Member Income Tax Board of Appellate Commissions.
