Members of Parliament (MPs) unanimously approved Dr. Nanah G.F. Pratt and Brigadier-General Osman Turay as Chairperson of the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) and Board Member Minerals Advisory Board, respectively. Thirty-three APC MPs and and 20 SLPP MPs along with five Paramount Chiefs discussed the nominees and voted. A verbal vote was unanimous. The NPAA was established in 2013 for the purpose of conserving forested areas and protecting wildlife within these designated areas. Unfortunately most of these areas had been encroached by construction, farming and artisanal mining. Such acts affect the environment negatively. Dr. Nanah Pratt is a retired lecturer and Head of Department at the Chemistry Department at Fourah Bay College (FBC). Osman Turay is active military man and head of media for RSLAF. The Leader of Parliament and Government Businesses, Hon Leonard F. Fofanah, disclosed the report about the nominees is the unanimous decision of the Committee on Appointments and Public Service. According to the Leader of Parliament, Dr Pratt admitted during the interview session that she is aware about the issue of encroachment within the protected areas including mangrove swamps, and hope with collective efforts with other relevant authorities they can address the problem. He disclosed that Dr Pratt explained to them about her belief that people need to be educated on the importance of the environment in relation to human existence and that most people refused to do the right things relying on their human rights. Other Members of Parliament made their contributions on the qualifications and past activities of the nominees whom they believe are more than qualify for their new positions, as time should not be wasted in approving them. According to the Speaker of Parliament, Hon S. B. B. Dumbuya, Dr Nanah Pratt is a “national celebrity” who is uncompromisingly strict in discharging her duties. By Alhaji M.
