Members of Parliament on Tuesday 24 July 2018, unanimously approved 17 presidential appointees to fill various vacant positions, as Chair, Director and Commissioners.
The Motion was put forward by the Deputy Leader of Government Business Honourable Mathew Sahr Nyuma, who underscored that the tenth report of the committee is the unanimous decision of the Committee on Appointments.
Among the approved nominees are:
Abu Bockarie Kokofele, – Commissioner, National Commission for Social Action,
Sarah Baindu, – Executive Director, Sierra Leone Maritime Administration,
Philip Karimu Lansana, Director, Sierra Leone Water Company,
Kalilu Totangi Chair, National Council for Civic Education and Development,
Donald Augustus Ngegba, Chair, Local Government Service Commission,
Thomas Ngolo Katta, Commissioner, National Youth Commission,
Emerson Kamara, Deputy Commissioner, National Youth Commission,
Bintu Meyers, Chair Board of Director, Guma Valley Water Company.
Seconding the Motion for the approval of all the presidential nominees, was Chief Whip of SLPP Honourable Dixon Rogers, who stated, “I know that the debate today will not be long, because all the people before the house are reputable individuals with great experiences.”
Honourable Ibrahim Ben Kargbo of the APC said, “All the nominees before the house are capable individuals to serve in those positions.” He said Bintu Meyers, Chair Board of Directors, Guma Valley Water Company is a fine personality with vast experience that will execute her function to the fullest of her ability.
Honourable Kargbo also levied praise on James Taiwo Cullen, Chair, National Commission for Persons with Disability that he is a great media practitioner that has contributed immensely to the growth of the media landscape in Sierra Leone.
According to the Leader of the National Grand Coalition Honourable Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, “You leading the Boards and Commissions are at the forefront in terms of corporate governance. You will make and break this country.” He said they should build on the existing structures, change what is necessary and above all to add value.
The Speaker of Parliament, Abass Chernor Bundu, said that Parliament will keep close eye on those MDA’s that have been approved, and ensure that they do the right things.
