Eastern Paddle Hunting Society on Saturday in a well attended street carnival celebrated its 68 years of existence in Freetown to honour some of its founding members and to also thank President Koroma for a successful two terms in governance.
On Saturday during the procession, the masquerade came from Devil Hole, up Dove Cut and then to Magazine Cut.
On reaching Elba Corner, the ceremony to honor some of its founding members took place as one of the daughters of Alhaji Muctarr Kallay, Mariam Seray Kallay and relatives of the others were in attendance when the Paddle officials headed by the Chairman Mohamed Gento Kamara paid their respects to all their past members.
He said the reason why these honourable people came together to form Paddle was to display Sierra Leone’s Culture and to help the poor especially those living around Magazine cut and Devil Hole areas.
“Over the years we have built hundreds of fishing boats for these people and we have been making sure that wherever possible we find jobs for them so that they too can be able to take care of their families.”
He said as they celebrate 68 years of existence, they will continue to showcase the culture of Sierra Leone and make sure thatit becomes economically viable to the nation.
The procession then moved eastwards to Kanikay, where they spent over one hour, before moving to Up Gun, Kissy Road where eminent Sierra Leoneans including ministers, Members of Parliament and other supporters of Paddle greeted the procession before they moved to Mountain Cut, Macauley Street, Circular Road, Pademba Road, Campbell Street.
Again At Campbell Street it was there again another set of MPs, Ministers and other Ordelay members were waiting and it was really a carnival mood.
After that they processed down Adelaide Street, Krootown Road, Siaka Stevens Street, PZ, SaniAbacha Street, Dove Cut and back to Devil Hole.
President Koroma was on hand to grace the occasion at Kissy Road as well as the Flagbearer of APC Dr Samura Kamara who is a long time patron of Eastern Paddle
