Counselor Shen XiaokaiChinese Economic Counselor in Sierra Leone, Shen Xiaokai, said this year alone over 800 Sierra Leoneans went to China for short courses, which is part of the bi-lateral cooperation between the two countries.
He said every year the numbers keep increasing as there is need to train staff from different disciplines so that they can have the basic idea on how to improve their capacity and that of the institutions, ministries and departments they are working.
“My government is always of the opinion that capacitating workers is good for the growth of any economy and it worked for China and we believe it will work for our brothers in the developing world.”
Shen averred that come 2018, the Chinese government will put more emphasis on training Sierra Leoneans in four priority areas, which are education, agriculture, public health and trade. He said these are areas that they believe are very important to the growth of the country’s economy and good governance, so they will send more officials to China from these areas to gain more knowledge.
Shen said he is very happy that all what they set sights on this year were completed and they will continue to work with ministries and departments to get more projects launched and more support for Sierra Leone.
