Sierra Leone News: Orange launches in Liberia and continues upgrades in Salone

With over 1.6 million customers at the end of February 2017, Orange Liberia is the leading mobile operator in Liberia in terms of customers. Orange, yesterday, announced the launch of its brand in Liberia. Cellcom Liberia becomes Orange Liberia.
The acquisition of the Liberian operator Cellcom was finalized by Orange, through its subsidiary Orange Côte d’Ivoire, on 6 April 2016, allowing the Group to reinforce its presence in West Africa.
In line with its Essentials2020 strategic plan, Orange has built a considerable presence in this region, which offers strong growth potential and is a strategic priority for the Group’s development.
Following this rebranding, Orange Liberia will join one of the world’s most powerful brands and stands to benefit from being part of a large international group. Orange will provide its marketing expertise and world-class technical capability to further strengthen the operator’s established network and enhance customer service in Liberia.However, in Sierra Leone, Orange – Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer, Sekou Drame, explained that work is ongoing for a smooth rebranding transition from Airtel to Orange.
The CEO pointed out that work is ongoing to overhaul the entire network system. “We have a network enhancement plan which started in January and work is currently ongoing. We are intending to finish it by the first semester and to be able to really improve the quality of services we are providing for our customers. We are also working on new offers that we would be bring to the people of Sierra Leone.” The CEO said they were working to achieve best international standards.
