High Court of Sierra Leone is awaiting the reaction of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) on cases that are yet to be tried in Court. Some of the cases can be traced as far back as 2010. Accused people were committed for trial but the Court lost track of their cases.
Offences for which some of them were charged include fraudulent conversion, robbery with aggravation and embezzlement.
One of the accused is Mohamed Bangura. He has been in custody for about eight years. He was charged with Fraudulent Conversion. The Court on Monday 2 July 2018 adjourned his case to July 9 in order that his warrant gets before the DPP.
Another accused is Mohamed Kamara. He has been in custody since 2012. His defence counsel informed the Court that he was deaf.
About eight of these cases were called during court session on Monday 2 July 2018 but no progress was made. All of the matters were adjourned to 9 July. The presiding Justice Reginald Fynn said he has spoken with the DPP about the files and that the DPP said they will make representations on the next adjourned date. He urged the defence counsel to assist in facilitating the matter.
