Deputy Information Minister, Cornelius Deveaux, said the relationship between Sierra Leone and China will continue to develop and nobody can separate the two countries. During the weekly Thursday press conference held at the Ministry of Information, Deveaux said there was an article published in the AYV newspaper on Monday 6th March captioned, ‘Sierra Leone government failing to achieve its tax collecting obligations as poverty grows.’ “I want to make it very clear that even though the article does not carry a by-line, it was the writer’s opinion and that is the beauty of democracy as people are free to express their views. But all the points raised were not correct. It is just to create problems in the nation.” The Deputy Minister said that because China believed in Sierra Leone that was why the relationship was upgraded by President Xi and President Ernest Bai Koroma during the visit last December. Commenting on all the projects in the country that has been agreed by both countries, Deveaux said all of them are on course and nothing can stop them because both countries have agreed because of the bonds between them. “If China has problems with Sierra Leone, they would make it known to us on governmental level and it would not be a secret because we would have seen all these companies pulling out, but instead more companies are coming in to invest.” Minister of State in the Foreign Ministry, Mohamed Gibril Sesay, who is currently in China on official duty said he is currently working with the Chinese government on projects that will benefit the country. Sesay said Sierra Leoneans must learn to love their country by being patriots rather than disseminating false information that has the tendency to bring disrepute in the country.
