A Spanish Red Cross official Veronica Songhez says that the new Ebola Case Management Centre that has been under construction for the past three weeks will be functional in a week’s time.
The construction of the center is ongoing at Niahun junction near Gelehun in Nongowa chiefdom, Kenema District.
Veronico Songhez said that construction of the site is being undertaken by the Spanish Red Cross and the centre will be in readiness soon to tackle Ebola cases. She disclosed that the present location is expected to take up to 26 tents; and that there will be another construction of tents at another site very close to the present one.
He said that the second site will host families of Ebola victims.
She said that these facilities are put in place in a bid to ensure that relatives of victims will not be shuttling between the camp and Kenema city. She said they will be having permanent stay at the camp until they recover.
It was revealed that when the camp is completed, victims presently at the Ebola Case Management Centre at the Government Hospital in Kenema will remain there, while new cases will be taken to the new Ebola Case Management camp at Niahun junction.
Most residents in Kenema district are now yearning to see the completion of the camp so that normal functions at the Government Hospital will resume.
