Sierra Leone News: New Attorney General takes Oath of Office

The new Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Justice, Charles Francis Margai, has taken the oath of office at State House in the presence of President Maada Bio, former Attorney Generals and members of the legal and justice sector, yesterday Monday 16 April 2018.
“I Charles Francis Margai, do hereby in the name of God swear by the Holy Bible that, I will faithfully and truly discharged the duties of the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone.” He went on that, “…that I will support, uphold and maintain the constitution of Sierra Leone as by law established. So help me God,” Charles Francis Margai, oath’s readings to the country.
According to the Sierra Leone Constitution, the AG will take his oath of office before the president and also according to the Supreme Court decisions, he does not have to go to Parliament for endorsement.
President Bio congratulated the new AG for accepting to serve in his government and in that position as he wished him successful tenure in office with lots of hope to ensure the judiciary work together in dispensing justice for all without fear or favour. He pleaded for a national commitment in dealing with national issues and urged for proper dispensation of justice.
The President reminded him and onlookers that during his campaign he promised this country his government will ensure the issue of lawlessness and indiscipline are taken care of stressing that in achieving that reality, the AG and his team must try hard in their quest to curb all forms of lawlessness and indiscipline.
He recalled, “I also want to remind you of the fact that we must take care of indiscipline and that justice must also be serve to all in a free and fear manner. As a society we must do all we can to take care of that and with corporations from the police we can do it and I look forward in working with you and your team,” he emphasized.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Margai, said, “I am pleased to be here this morning and to subscribed to the oath of the office of AG and Minister of Justice for which I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me by your Excellency.”
The AG assured, “I will do my utmost to work as closely with the Judiciary headed by a determined Chief Justice and with all the areas connected with the administration of justice, I will ensure fair play and to guarantee the people of this country that justice is for all without fear or favour.” He said, “My approach will be one of cooperation, consultation and not confrontation.”
