The National Youth Festival, organized by Life By Design, was held on the 15th June 2018 at the Miatta Conference Hall, Freetown. The theme for this year’s Awards is “My Choices My life” better choices for a better life. The event was chaired by two heavy weights in the media – John Konteh (Station Manager of AIRadio) and Asma James (Station Manager of Radio Democracy).
The award ceremony recognized the Best NPSE 2016 and 2017, Best BECE 2016 and 2017 and Best WASSCE 2016 and 2017.
The awards session recognized young people who excelled in Academia, Innovation, Creative Arts and Entrepreneurship. “As we continue to support and empower young people to take charge of their future and their nation’s development, we also find it extremely important to recognize and celebrate those who demonstrate the greatest example of the principles we have been sharing over the last 7-8 years,” Joe Abass of Life-by-Design said.
“Every year, Life-by-Design gathers people from all walks of life to celebrate young people who achieve excellence in academics, innovation, entrepreneurship and other creative endeavors. This engagement ties in perfectly with Life-by-Design’s vision of helping young people create the future they wish to experience.”
The new Lifetime Achievement Award – created to recognize excellent contributions in the field of education was given to Akiwande Lasite, the Principal of the Sierra Leone Grammar School and Gracie Williams, former Principal of the Annie Walsh Memorial School Freetown.
The event was interjected with “Schools Got Talent” contest finalists who auditioned their acts for cash prize. The Sierra Leone Grammar School (SLGS) won this competition earning the winning prize of Le 3 million, plus a trophy.
