Philip Max- Gorvie, public relations officer of the national polytechnic and teacher training colleges has on Monday told Awoko that the said council seeks for a better condition of service for senior and supporting staff of teacher training colleges in Sierra Leone.
Reacting on the strike action dated on Monday which he described as timely, Mr Max Gorvie maintained that the unnecessary delay on the implementation of the 2016 to 2018 conditions of service is one factor that has impeded the effective delivery of service by workers at the different colleges.
Mr Max Gorvie further re-echoed the main condition of the strike action, stating that what the entire membership seeks at the moment is the payment of backlogs and two month salaries before any negotiation with the appropriate bodies concern.
Lamenting on what he described as bitter experience since 2012 with regards to delay payment of salaries, leave allowances and backlogs, Mr Max-Gorvie further stated that strike action is the only alternative that can use to address the issue urgently.
Being an essential body that produces mass power in the educational system, Mr Max-Gorvie added, “lecturers who play a pivotal role in the educational sector are grossly dissatisfied over several concerns and we believe this strike action is the only instrument we can use in drawing the attention of authorities concerned, since 2012 when we had series of strike action”
In his statement, Mr Max Gorvie assured the public of his Councils commitment to continue their vibrant effort in delivering unhindered quality service to students if the issues highlighted are addressed urgently adding that the council has already done a lot in covering the academic syllabus.
