Part of the Fourah Bay College road leading to Leicester is now in a deplorable condition that motorists and pedestrians using the road are now calling urgently for the Road Maintenance Fund (RMF) to make funds available so that this road can be repaired.
Talking to drivers the whole of last week about the condition of the road, most of them unanimously said that if RMF does not take urgent action on the road, it will definitely cut off when the rains start.
The commercial drivers plying this route to Leicester and Gloucester say it is now an urgent matter for this road to be repaired because it is dangerous for them when they are carrying passengers and the worst part of the road is right in front of the Fourah Bay College Primary school.
European Union funded the construction of that road beginning from Leicester Peak junction at Regent right on to Kortright and from the bridge right down to Model. The stretch from the bridge on to Kortright is what the drivers are complaining.
“We want immediate action on that road, I don’t know whether it is the government responsibility, or the European Union that funded part of the road, or CSE that constructed the road. I don’t know who to talk to, but as far as I am concerned we are appealing for that stretch of road to be repaired so that accidents will not occur, our vehicles will last longer,” a usual motorist using the road urged.
This road is now the best road to avoid the construction going on at the Hill Station New England road as it is shorter and majority of the road is paved. But this short stretch has caused lots of problems for drivers and riders and most of them have become frustrated to the point that it is unbearable.
This route has become the main road for people living in the far east of Jui, Waterloo, Rokel, Newton, etc. as the Regent Grafton road is well paved and part of the Leicester College road. The Leicester – College road is now carrying a heavy traffic, which has impacted on the road. It is because of the smooth drive and less traffic that the people using this road are calling on government to come to their aide
