Twelve years after its establishment, the Miss Sierra Leone Limited, original founder for the Miss Sierra Leone Pageant, has set for another pageant show which will take place 10th May 2014.
The theme is “grooming young ladies for leadership role in Sierra Leone.”
Miss Sierra Leone Limited which is the registered organizer of the Miss Sierra Leone Beauty Pageant Show was established in 2001 and held its first pageant show in 2002 which later saw the death of the winner, Annimaude Cole, which was surrounded with controversy, as this prevented the Board members and organizers to discontinue.
The organization has been revived and wishes to undertake the task for which it was established with the mandate to organize national beauty pageants and to oversee all pageants that involve selecting representatives to international pageants.
The Committee has now involved new members and during a press conference at the Tourism Board, Dr. Julius Spencer said the objectives of the organization which is non -profit making ensures that the country sends representatives at international pageants like Miss West Africa, ECOWAS, World and Universe.
He further stated that they are also charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the queen is truly a national icon of all round beauty that will be properly provided for during the reign of each queen.
Dr Spencer disclosed that the winner of the contest will be engaged in charitable activities and she has to be seen as a positive role model for young women in the country to emulate from.
The prizes to be won by the contestants includes a car, cash prizes of Le10 million, Le 5million and Le3 Million and they also stand a chance to win air tickets, ipads, ipods and iphones, Dr Spencer disclosed.
He also added that the winner of the contest who will be crowned will also be receiving a monthly stipend from Miss Sierra Leone Limited for one year and also will be provided with funding for charitable work.
Given the timeline for the events, Mohamed Lamrana Jalloh, Acting Manager Miss Sierra Leone Limited said auditions will commence from 11-13 April.
He said because of time, they cannot organize the contest for all the districts but that applications will be accepted from participants from the districts, therefore he said “the pageant will have contestants representing all the districts in the country.”
