On Wednesday, 18th January 2017, 14,200 Mercury customers registered the biggest win in the history of lottery in Sierra Leone. The winners collected Le2.7 billion from the Nongowa draw in the 5/90 lottery draw.
It is expected that the 14,200 winning tickets could have an average winning of Le 200,000 each. The lucky winners attended Mercury payment centres across the country to validate and collect their winnings.
The Managing Director of Mercury International, Martin E. Michael, described the winning as a great day for the company’s valued customers, saying that, “this happens to be the highest winning on the 5/90 lotto product since it inception. As a company, we are happy to have such winnings for our esteemed costumers. We’ll ensure all winners receive their monies without any delay. In fact, we’ve started payments in all of our payment centres across the country”, Michael confirmed.
The Marketing Manager, Mercury International, Olu Kamara, said, “I am extremely delighted that customers could win such a huge amount.” He said this will motivate more players and more customers. Kamara also confirmed that he has deployed more staff to payment centres to help ensure costumers are paid without delay.
Mariatu Kargbo, a fish seller, joyfully thanked Mercury for her winning after playing with just Le2,000.
