The Medical and Dental Council of Sierra Leone (MDCSL), which is the statutory regulatory body for medical and dental practitioners in the country, recently completed investigation of a formal complaint against Dr. Walid Hashishou, a private medical practitioner in Freetown,” said the MDCSL Registrar, Dr. Samuel Thorpe.
“Council found Dr. Walid Hashishou guilty of clinical negligence in the management of the late Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid and was strongly reprimanded,” he revealed.
Dr. Thorpe further noted, “Council is also currently investigating another formal complaint against Dr. Baimba Ramadan Idriss of 34 Military Hospital in Freetown by the family of the Late Mamusu Mannah who died in mid October 2015.”
He said “the investigation will soon be concluded and the outcome will be published.”
The MDCSL Registrar emphasized that “Council will thoroughly investigate all complaints submitted and appropriate penalty would be imposed on any medical or dental practitioner found guilty of professional misconduct or clinical negligence.”
He said, “the Medical Practitioners and Dental Surgeons Act of 1994 stipulates three penalties that can be imposed on medical and dental practitioners found guilty of clinical negligence or professional misconduct, which are either: defaulter(s) could be reprimanded; suspended for a period of up to 12 months or removal of defaulter(s) name(s) from the Register which means the practitioner can no longer practice.
