Marie Stopes International, over the weekend, celebrated 40 years of delivering personalised, reproductive health services around the world.
“Marie Stopes was established in 1976 with a focus to provide a full range of high quality, affordable and client-focused sexual and reproductive services to women, men and young people,” says Ufuoma Omo-Obi, Marie Stopes Sierra Leone (MSSL), Country Director, during a press briefing on Aberdeen Road.
”We are proud of our role in delivering Marie Stopes International mission of ‘Children by Choice Not by Chance’. Our partnership was founded so that women and families all over the world could fulfil their right to choose whether and when to have children. MSSL is committed to making that right a reality for the people of this country.” Mr Omo-Obi stated.
Omo-Obi further added that Marie Stopes is committed to enabling women to have children by choice not by chance. They started operations in Sierra Leone in 1986 providing almost half of all family planning in the country.
MSSL is striving to increase access to its services in all the 13 districts in Sierra Leone. MSSL in collaboration with Ministry of Health has developed a strategic initiative to reach the most disadvantaged and deprived communities across the country.
According to the Country Director, 786,210 women in Sierra Leone benefited from the services of MSSL adding that because of his organisation’s efforts in maternal and child reproductive health, the government was able to save almost 3 million pounds sterling.
Marie Stopes is the largest, specialised, family planning organisations offering long-acting and permanent methods contraception, post abortion treatment, fertility services to women, men and young people across Sierra Leone.
