On Sunday 7 May 2017, police arrested 23 youths at Mountain Cut in Freetown. It is alleged that the youths carried knives and were in possession of cannabis sativa.
They were charged with Carrying Offensive Weapons without Authority contrary to the Public order Act of 1965 and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis contrary to the Pharmacy and Drug Act.
At their first appearance before Magistrate Binneh Kamara at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court, in Freetown, on Thursday 18 May, the accused pleaded guilty to the offences as charged.
After 12 days in custody, Magistrate Kamara, on Friday 19 May 2017 sentenced the 23 youth to eight months in prison for both counts or pay an alternative fine of Le700,000.
