The chairman Bo District Council who doubles as the president of the Local Councils Association Sierra Leone Joseph Maada Bindi has called on Sierra Leoneans to team up with the Local Councils to move the country forward in terms of development. He made this call during a two day smart partnership dialogue engagement with members of parliament, local councils and other stakeholders across the country at the Kenema district council hall. He said this is the first time ever in the history of the country for such an engagement since the establishment of the local councils in the country wherein the members of parliament and the councils discuss issues that affect the welfare of the people of this nation. There is need to get together and have sincere engagement with national authorities, with emphasis on effective decentralization process, adding as a nation we have what it takes to be one of the best countries in the world, but we will not be able to address majority of our development strides when we fail to properly decentralize.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
He said they will not only be reviewing the local councils Act but at the same time reviewing the constitution of the local council so that they will align their operations with the new mandate that is going to come. He called on participants to move their discussion from any form of political issues, regional, tribe and to deviate from anything that will hold us apart. He disclosed that as a council, they call on the parliamentarians so that they can understand the issues as there are gaps in the councils and the dialogue forum will continue beyond this point in the interest of the nation. The chairman of the ceremony Sahr Emmanuel Yambasu chief administrator Tonkolili district council called on participants to be frank in their discussion by bringing up ideas that will help the country in creating development and sustainability in the nation.
