President Ernest Bai Koroma over the weekend, urged all Sierra Leoneans to be more focused and attentive in saving the country than asserting blames, as his Government will do all it can to save its citizens.
President Ernest Bai Koroma made this appeal to the nation during his one-day assessment trip to the construction site of a 100- bed Ebola treatment centre at Gbomsamba village in Port Loko district on Saturday 13th September 2014.
He said, as a Government, they are doing everything humanly possible to ensure funds are available to provide more facilities at health centres to be able to attend to patients.
He said 165 medical Doctors from Cuba will soon be in the country to assist with their expertise in the fight against Ebola.
President Koroma said apart from the existing treatment centres in Kailahun and Kenema, Government had constructed one at Kerry town in Freetown.
He also said that they are also constructing 100 beds permanent treatment centre at Gbomsamba in the Port Loko district to make available more facilities across the country.
He described the pace of work at the construction site as disappointing and that the manner in which the work was amplified was not what obtains on the ground.
He urged the Minister of Foreign Affairs to contact the National EOC for disbursement of funds on Monday 15th September to the contractor for speedy completion and get it ready even if it’s with temporary tents.
President Koroma further said, “From what I have seen here, you have not started anything,” he went on that, “our commitment will be to provide you with the required funds for the work.”
He said, “We are not complaining transparency here because we need to make use of this place because we have heard of this site for quite long time with nothing happening on the ground” urging that “Let us ensure we have enough facilities in all holding centres.”
At the 100 acres Gbomsamba Ebola treatment centre construction site, the Engineer for Coal Lee construction Group, Daniel Kosseh informed the President that they are yet to received funds for the construction projects which has blocked their work.
He maintained that whenever funds are made available to them, the work will last for three weeks, pointing out that they have the manpower and are well knowledgeable about the work after what they did in the Kerry town construction.
Daniel Kosseh said the treatment centre on completion, will have convalescent ward for discharged Ebola cases, nurses dressing room, screening ward, unconfirmed cases ward, confirmed cases ward, severe ward, mortuary, work station for medical personnel and laboratory for all tests.
He confirmed that the Gbomsamba treatment centre will also be bigger than that at Kerry town with larger wards and a well modified plan.
