On Monday 21st January 2019 Magistrate Santigie Bangura granted Le40 million bail to Lansana Vandy Sami, a property caretaker, after he pleaded not guilty to three counts charges of malicious wounding, assault and insulting conduct. It is alleged that on 9 January 2019 at Congo Cross in Freetown, the accused wounded and assaulted Ramsha Thomas. He furthermore insulted the woman in the presence of the public. Sami was arrested and charged contrary to the Offences against the Person’s Act 1861 and the Public Order Act 1965. He made his first appearance before the magistrate on Monday 21 January 2019. His defence counsel, Lloyd H. Jusu, pleaded for bail. Although the prosecution counsel, M. Kanu wanted the Court to afford him 24-hours to enable him to file an affidavit in objection to the application based on the new bail policy. The Magistrate granted the accused bail and ordered that it be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to next Tuesday 29 January 2019.
