Sierra Leone News: Le100M bail for alleged land fraudster

Sulaiman Bangura was granted Le100 million bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Pademba Road in Freetown, on Monday 6th May 2019. Police alleged on the 7th November 2017, in Freetown, Bangura conned Haja Isata Kamara out of Le70 million by pretending to sell her four town lots. Bangura was charged with obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to the complainant and witness, Haja Isata Kamara, she was told about some land for sale. She met Bangura, the accused, on 7th November 2017, and gave him Le27 million after her younger brother toured the property. She later gave Bangura another Le30 million. She visited the land and was told the land did not belong to Sulaiman Bangura but belonged to his older sister. Kamara reported the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon advice from her lawyer. Defense lawyer made an application for bail pursuant to Section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965. The matter was adjourned to the 16th May 2019.
