Minister of Labour and Social Security, Mathew Teambo and some of his staff have returned from China where they attended the 2017 Seminar on Trade Facilitation for Developing Countries. The Minister paid a courtesy call on Shen Xiaokai, the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone on Friday, November 10, 2017.
The Minister said the purpose of his visit was to thank the government of China through the Ministry of Commerce for providing the training opportunity for staff of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. He expressed his appreciation for the long bilateral cooperation between China and Sierra Leone, and how Sierra Leone has benefited tremendously.
Minister Teambo also expressed his gratitude to Shen Xiaokai contributions in human resource development, capacity building, infrastructural development, and bilateral trade and investment. He indicated that his Ministry will continue to work very closely with the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone for the mutual benefit of the citizens of this country and China.
Stephen James Foyah, one of the participants from the Ministry said he was very grateful for the opportunity to visit China and that this was his first time of traveling out of Africa. He said the seminar was refreshing and an eye opener for him, as he saw firsthand the level of commitment and dedication of the Chinese people to the work. “My approach to my work has improved since my return from China”, he concluded.
Shen Xiaokai, the Economic and Commercial Counselor, said China is committed to providing more training opportunities to Sierra Leoneans in 2018. The focus will be on four pillars: Agriculture, Education, Public Health, and Trade, with each of these pillars training 100 Sierra Leoneans.
He concluded by thanking the Minister and his entourage for visiting his office and affirmed his willingness to work further with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen the bilateral ties between China and Sierra Leone.
