At the 49th celebration of the Methodist Western District Synod, the Krio Descendant Union donated assorted items to the Methodist Church.
The donation took place during the representative session hosted at Wesley Methodist Church at Lamina Sankoh Street, last Thursday.
According to the President of the union, Cassandra Garber, many of their Krio relatives especially in the rural areas cannot afford basic necessities and therefore have “low standard of living”.
“As a union which was set up as far back as 1992, in order to network with members that have gone to live permanently overseas, we have realised that we have to step in to help ease the living condition of some of our relatives in the rural areas,” she explained.
With regards their relationship with the church, she maintained that Methodism is the first Christian form of worship in the settlement, and that they believe many of their relatives are associated with this form of Christian worship.
She maintained that they were invited to the Synod in order to congratulate the union for their social work. “We used the opportunity therefore to present our donation to the church as an easy channel to reach our relatives,” Cassandra Garber maintained.
The items according to her include books, used clothes, medications and household items.
The Chair of the Synod, Rev. Arnold Archer-Campbell who received the items assured that the items would be distributed to every circuit in the rural areas.
