Sierra Leone News: Koinadugu Disable plead for supports
The Northern Region Chairman for the Amputees and War-Wounded Association, Sieh Mansaray has pleaded to Government and other Non-Governmental Organizations to assist them with food and non-food items because most of them cannot go out in search for food as a result of Ebola. The Regional Chairman for Amputees and War-Wounded Association made this appeal in an exclusive interview with Awoko Newspaper at his Bilimaya road residence in Kabala Town, over the weekend, where he said since the outbreak, Government nor local authorities had ever met them with any form of support. He said before now, they had moved around to members of the public to request for support and their daily sustenance but with Ebola, they cannot go out, which according to him had impacted badly on them. The Northern Region Chairman for Amputees and War-wounded, Sieh Mansaray, said they were fortunate to had benefited from a German Organization called Medico International who supported them to have an umbrella body that advocated for their welfare, stating that they were also provided with Seventy Two (72) houses in Koinadugu district of which 17 are in Fadugu, 15 houses are in Bilimaya road in Kabala, 10 houses are in Malaforah, Katombo-Two had 10 houses, Alpha Amadu Street in Kabala had seven houses, while Kamasokolia village had 13 houses. Sieh Mansaray said nine of his colleagues, who were not fortunate to have houses for their family are presently staying in-town with their family members and relatives. According to him, the project was terminated because of lack of funds to continue. He said since the Ebola outbreak, they had suffered a lot and are still suffering because of the disease and the economy situation in the country. The Regional Chairman said, “the Ebola war had affected us the disabled and amputees greatly, with no food and money to take care of our family because all our daily needs, especially substances because of our situation had always depended on able people but as you are aware, we cannot move out on our normal food findings because of the outbreak of Ebola,” he stated. He said all the petty trading they had engaged in from money raised as a result of their daily savings are no more, pointing that they have been eating it with nothing to add to it, which among other reasons, had constituted in disturbing them. He said all their children and family members cannot go out in search of food and to even make request from members of the public who, according to him, with the power of God, provides for their daily needs. Chairman Sieh Mansaray called on Government, Local councils, district authorities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) to assist them with food and non- food items, chlorine, Dettol, disinfectants, involving them into areas they can provide support in the fight, so that they will not be neglected by the community, pointing that most of them are very useful and instrumental in their various communities. The Chairman went on that if possible, Government should provide basic training for his colleagues in hard-to-reach communities in his region on Ebola. We were not included in the ebola sensitization by government and local authorities which we considered as a neglect and discrimination on our part. Ebola did not come to look for either rich or poor man, able nor disabled people which was the more reason why we think anything that has to do with sensitization and support on Ebola, we must be included because we are citizens of this nation Thursday November 06, 2014
