Police allege that Issa Sandy, on Monday April 17 (Easter Monday), at Fourah Bay Road in Freetown was caught carrying a kitchen knife, which the Police termed, an “offensive weapon”. The second and third accused, Ibrahim Saal and Bamba Sannoh, were arrested for disorderly behaviour.
Likewise, on the second charge sheet, the first accused was charged with the offences of Carrying Offensive Weapon as he was accused of carrying a kitchen knife and Disorderly Behaviour, while the other two were charged for Disorderly Behaviour only.
A second file was presented to Magistrate Moody that contained very similar issues. Amadu Bah, Abdul Rahman Bah and Mohamed L. Kamara were also charged together. Amadu Bah was charged with carrying an offensive weapon and the other two accused were charged with Disorderly Conduct.
All six of the accused pleaded guilty to the offenses and asked the Magistrate for forgiveness. Magistrate Moody on Monday April 24 sentenced six youths to the Correctional Centre for Carrying Offensive Weapons and Disorderly Behaviour contrary to the Public Order Act of 1965.
Those charged with Carrying Offensive Weapons were sentenced to six months in Correctional Service or pay a fine of Le 300,000 while those charged with Disorderly Behaviour were sentenced to three months in Correctional Service or pay a fine of Le 250,00 B0.
