Join 4 Betteh Salone Movement (J4BS) on Thursday commemorated the Day of the African Child alongside schools in Thonko Limba Chiefdom in a grand event at the C.A. Kamara-Taylor Hall in Madina, Kambia District.
The National Coordinator of the Movement, Abu Bakar Kamara-Taylor said they decided to come to Thonko Limba because it is one of the areas that need boost in education and they want to help the pupils achieve their dreams. The Movement was in the chiefdom to conduct a quiz competition among school pupils as a way of encouraging them to learn more.
He explained that the movement is headed by John Bonoh Sisay who unfortunately was out of the country, but was represented by his wife, Irina Sisay.
“It is time for you pupils to again rise up and put this chiefdom back in its rightful place. Education is the most important thing of your life as you can only reach the top when you are adequately educated,” Mr. Kamara-Taylor stated.
He said the J4BS Movement believes in education and wherever they go, that has been their priority they believe that an educated Sierra Leone means a prosperous Sierra Leone.
Welcoming the Movement to the chiefdom, Paramount Chief Bombolai Kelfa Foro III expressed delight at the sight of sons and daughters of the chiefdom from all over the country returning to give back to the chiefdom through education.
He explained that the mother of John Bonoh Sisay hails from Thonko Limba and expressed optimism that the Movement will continue rendering support to education in the chiefdom.
PC Kelfa Foro pointed out that by bringing all the schools in the chiefdom together on such an important historical commemoration is an indication of the desire by members to instill love and unity amongst the growing children of the chiefdom.
Hon. Patrick Lahai Kargbo who represents Thonko Limba (Constituency 39) in Parliament said the presence of the J4BS Movement in his constituency is laudable especially when it is focused on promoting education.
The Honorable said for over 30 years no female from the chiefdom has graduated with a university degree, and expressed hope that J4BS Movement will help promote female enrolment in schools.
“We should not forget that this is the chiefdom that produced the late President Siaka Stevens, C.A. Kamara-Taylor, and today we are proud of having Dr. Sam Sesay who is now Presidential Adviser. So we want more people in the future to be in high positions in the government and public offices,” the MP stated.
The quiz competition was won by the Government Secondary School Madina for which they bagged the first prize and learning materials including books, pens, pencils, Mathematical sets etc.
The other participants were given consolation prizes also including learning materials and certificates of participation were distributed by Mrs. John Bonoh Sisay.
The high point of the event was the announcement of a special Girls’ Scholarship for girls who attain entrance to tertiary institutions.
