Minister of Information and Communications, Alhaji Alpha Kanu yesterday publicly denounced the Special Adviser to the President and described her as an in-plant embedded in the camp of government in order to collect and transmit information to her counterparts.
This and other utterances were made against Sylvia Blyden during the weekly government press conference in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Information and Communication at Youyi Building in Freetown.
These utterances came in the wake of series of publications made by the Awareness Times Newspaper about the Minister of Health and Sanitation and the handling of the Ebola outbreak.
Alhaji Alpha Kanu described the publications, especially the reproduction of the caption, “Health Minister Mocks Nurse who died of Ebola, as Promiscuous” to be misinforming, unpatriotic and an effrontery to the person of a government official.
The publication described the dress code of the Minister while addressing Parliament to be seductive. “The paper is a set of fabrication, we need to do something about it” Alpha Khan stated.
He referred to the Special Adviser to the President (SEA) and Publisher, as dangerous and a demented rumour-monger that is only meant to create chaos in the society.
He lamented that Sylvia Blyden is a lost cause to those who sent her, and she is presently struggling to gain relevance in the eyes of the public.
The Minister of Information added that the publication about the Protective Clothes and Chlorine donated by the Member of Parliament of the Opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) portrays the Government as not doing anything serious about curtailing the Ebola outbreak.
It was revealed that the publications about the Ebola outbreak has presented the country in a negative light and dented the international relations of Sierra Leone as the Health Minister will soon face the Guinean Government to react to allegations of importing the virus to their country.
He however thanked the Opposition Member of Parliament for the donations, as the government cannot do it alone. “It is a war that we have to fight with patriotism, it is not a time to play politics” he stated.
The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Miatta Kargbo stated that the misleading publications of the Awareness Times Newspaper incited the health workers to threaten strike action as they had all right to get mad.
She strongly denied the allegations of making such utterances against the health workers
Madam Kargbo apologised to the health workers for the publication and called on them to be dedicated to their good work, as no amount of human reward is commensurate to the services they are providing to the nation.
