As promised by the Government of China, to assist Sierra Leone in the fight against EBOLA, the Chinese centre for disease control team has organized special training for the various cadres of health personnel in the Western Area.
At one of the conference room, at Bintumani Hotel, the Chinese disease control team through an interpreter, Dr. Alex Kanu, demonstrated the proper use of the various instruments which makeup the personal, protective, equipment (PPE) that was provided by the Chinese government.
The team advised the Western Area medical staff to read the handbook developed by the CDC team, noting that there are very useful information, which will guide them in the dispense of their duties and also protect them from contacting the disease.
Step by step, as the team carried out the training, they emphasized the importance of hand washing with disinfectant or soap and clean water, before putting on the protective clothing and accessories.
This routine, the team stressed, must be mastered, noting that if they do not master the skills of putting on and taking off of the protective gear properly, it will put their lives at high risk of contracting the virus.
After the training, Sao Lamin from Health Alert, questioned about how support staff at the isolation centre, should be clad before handling PPE’s for disposal.
The team disclosed that each staff attached to the centre, is compelled to be trained on the use of PPE, and should wear the clothing before handling, the disposal of used PPE’s.
Other questions from the medical staff, were clarified which will further guide them, while on duty at their various centres.
They also appealed to the Chinese team to assist Government improve on the isolation centres around the country.
Apart from the training and personal Protective equipment, the Chinese disease control team will provide portable steam sterilizer, mobile ultraviolet bacterial lamp, ultra- low volume mist, and hand pump disinfectant sprayer.
The Public Relations Officer, in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Abass Kamara informed Awoko that the training is a training of trainers, which participants are expected to train colleagues, in there various duty stations in the Western Area.
