The first elected, independent woman Member of Parliament in Constituency 001 Kailahun District, Honourable Emilia Lolloh Tongi, on Friday 22 June 2018 assured residents in Ward 002 Weh town, Pokorli section, of a modern health facility.
According to newly elected MP, residents within that community have been deprived of health and sanitation facilities for decades despite promises from various politicians over the years.
Hon. Tongi promised, “I will construct a health centre for the people in Ward 002 from my savings as an independent MP for the benefit of all.” She added, “Regardless of political affiliations, the health centre will be available to all.”
“Whether or not you voted for me, I’m now the MP for everyone in Constituency 001. Political differences should now be a thing of the past,” she said. MP Tongi said as the first female MP in Kissi Tongi, her intention is to bring development to her people.
Hon. Tongi said she wasn’t getting the cooperation of local councilors, whom she’s invited to several meetings but they fail to attend. She called on the elders and stakeholders to urge the four councilors to work with her in the interest of development.
The President of Kailahun Women in Governance Network (KWIGN), Lucy C.F. Gondor said the Network is always ready to advocate for women’s participation and inclusion into politics and development.
The Network President maintained this is the first time in the District’s history to have a female independent candidate win an election. She called on residents and groups to work with the MP to advance development.
