In an alleged domestic violence case presided over by Magistrate Albert Moody, 59 year old Abiodu Mahdi who happened to be the victim said the accused will slowly kill her if he continues to stay in the same house with her.
The victim, who had been cohabiting with the accused, Jeffrey Yaskey for over fifteen years, explained to the court that in August this year the accused physically abused her, other words, beats her. She said the accused on the said date accused her of taking the duplicate of their house key. She added that the house actually belongs to her being that she was the owner of the land but since she was afraid that the accused will one day kill her for the said property, she decided to give him three of the four apartments while she held on to one.
She said for the past six years, though they are lovers, they have not been living in good terms and that the accused usually throw threatening remark at her. “I have been reporting him to the police several times but I have not been following the matter,” she admitted.
At the application for bail by defence counsel, Sahid Sesay, ‘I will die if I continue to stay with him in the same house’, the 59 year old screamed.
The magistrate however cautioned the accused to keep away from the victim, warning that though some of what the witness had said was not part of the evidence before the court, he has taken them into consideration and will closely monitor the activities of the accused while he stays with the victim. He added that he will not hesitate to remand him if there was any proof to the allegations.
The defence counsel also vowed to step out of the matter if the allegations proved otherwise.
The matter was adjourned to the 25th November while the accused was granted twenty million Leones bail.
