Sierra Leone News: In alleged assault case …Investigator says blood stain was at crime scene

In an alleged case of assault involving one Kumba (accused) and Elizabeth (complainant) which took place early February at Goderich village in the western part of Freetown, the police investigator DPC 14330 Alfred J. Yamba has disclosed to the court that there was blood stain at the scene of crime.
In his testimony before Justice Abdul Rhaman Mansaray on Monday 4th July the investigator said he was on duty at the Adonkia police station on Monday 1st February 2016 where the complainant with blood oozing from her left reported the matter.
He went on to say that he went to the scene of crime together with DPC 8773 Turay FP, where he further obtained independent witness statement. “I observed blood stain at the scene of crime but I did not see the knife allegedly used to stab the victim”, he explained.
The investigator furthered that he charged the accused based on the evidences he gathered during his investigation. He also tendered the police medical report issued to the victim, the statements of the accused as well as her charged statement.
The accused is charged with wounding, wounding with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm all contrary to the Offences against a Person’s Act of 1861.
Meanwhile the prosecution has closed their case with two factual witnesses and one formal witness. The State prosecutor A. Sheku tendering the committal certificate said that a preliminary investigation on the said matter was conducted and the matter was committed to the High Court on the 29th February 2016.
Meanwhile Defence Counsel in the said matter L.M. Bayoh has told the court that his witness will testify on fact and that he will further call on witnesses to testify. The matter was adjourned to Wednesday 13th July.
