In the alleged Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) case involving Joko Venn, Principal of Russell Secondary School, Russell Village, Justice Alusine Sesay last Friday warned the accused to take the matter before his court seriously.
He made this statement following the absence of C. F. Edwards, the counsel representing the accused, when the matter was called.
The Judge said he will not continue to adjourn the matter. He therefore ruled that since counsel for the defence was not in court, the accused should cross examine the witness. He advised him to look for another lawyer if his counsel could no longer come to court.
Although the accused was reluctant in questioning the witness, the Judge urged that he do so since it was for cross examination that the matter was adjourned last Wednesday (the last adjourned date).
The witness, Arnold Basie Kamara who happened to be a senior staff at the West African Examination Council (WAEC), during the cross examination disclosed to the court that he was only informed about the variance in the submitted candidates’ list when he was called to testify at the ACC.
The accused is charged with one count charge of abuse of office contrary to the ACC Act.
The accused is alleged to have changed the names in the list of approved candidates sent to him by the Ministry of Education for the 2013/2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) examination. The matter was adjourned to the 15th of February.
