The Independent Media Commission (IMC) will this evening award Journalists and Media houses for their exemplary performance in 2013 at the Family Kingdom Hotel in Freetown.
The award ceremony is one of the flagship programmes of the commission aimed at motivating and rewarding journalist for practicing responsible journalism during the year under review.
According to a member of the IMC Awards Committee, Saidu Bah, representing the Sierra Leone Reporters Union as its Secretary General, the award ceremony is essential for journalists in the country.
He said the award ceremony serves as a means of recognition and motivation to journalists engaged in responsible journalism in the print and electronic media.
He revealed there are also awards for specialized reporting on issues of health, sexual and gender based violence, environment, business and other areas of public interest.
He also said that several corporate institutions and development partners have supported the awards ceremony in both cash and kind.
The ceremony today, he noted, is expected to attract several distinguished personalities from the public and the private sectors and the media.
He informed that the awards ceremony will be broadcast live on all major radio stations across the country via Cotton Tree News (CTN) and Africa Independent Radio.
